A little about Microsoft Project
Microsoft Project is packed with functions that allow you to plan, cost and manage projects down to the smallest detail, the built in collaborative workflow and the ability to automate many of the functions means other members of the project team can be informed of as the position of costs and resources in real time. Over the years Microsoft Project as evolved into a very powerful program aided in part by it’s integration with other Microsoft Office application and Microsoft SharePoint.

Benefits of MS Project:
the ability to document project tasks,
assign certain tasks to particular resources.
Set  expected task completion date and total budget cost.

Using MS Project, you can monitor and build reports on project expenses, equipment, time along with other project related variables.

Users can use many of the tools in Microsoft Project to make tracking and management of projects easier these include GANTT and PERT charts, detailed information appertaining the current project can be exported in various formats including HTML so other team members can track the progress remotely via the web or corporate intranet.

What MS Project is not.
Microsoft Project is not an effective solution for very small companies, the amount of time spent collating and inputting the data would make Project an unviable option, but when utilized in a mid to large organization the payback can be extremely beneficial.

For Microsoft Project to work correctly it’s of paramount importance that all team members should be fully conversant with the application, the initial learning curve of Microsoft Project is steep due to the power and functionality of the program, but once the initial baptism of fire is over it’s a very useful tool indeed.
